Monique has more than 15 years of experience working with progressive nonprofit agencies to develop diverse funding streams, build solid organizational structures and create national and local alliances. These organizations include: Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, Power Inside, ONE DC, Community Mediation, Fusion Partnerships, National Youth Advocacy Coalition, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, and National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.
Monique specializes in organizational assessments, board development, team building and Elemental OD (a holistic organizational diagnostic model). Monique developed Elemental OD as a method of looking to the natural world to better understand organizational life. Elemental OD integrates the wisdom of earth-based spiritual traditions with sound OD theory to create an exciting and holistic framework.
Monique began her progressive organizing career at the (now-defunct) National Black Lesbian and Gay Leadership Forum. It was there that she learned about the intersections of race, class, sexual orientation, language, and other markers of identity. She continued to work with movement organizations, ultimately discovering her gift for facilitating difficult conversations and managing differences within groups without silencing members on the margins.
As a fundraising and organization development professional, Monique has successfully authored multi-million dollar federal grants, managed internal organization development projects and worked with boards of directors to create viable and inspired strategic plans. Monique is a featured activist in The Spirit of Social Change: Love, Hope, Faith and Joy in Intersectional Activism and published author in Spirited: Affirming the Soul and the Black Gay/Lesbian Identity.
Monique’s life and work represent the intersections of her multiple identities. As an African-American lesbian with working class roots, her hope is that the multiple communities to which she belongs will benefit as she moves into her role as an organization development consultant.
Monique has a Masters degree in Organization Development from American University in Washington, D.C. where she was awarded a Segal-Seashore Fellowship for her commitment to social justice. She is also a Reiki Master.
