Almost no one goes to work for a social justice group aspiring to be a manager.  They go to be great lawyers, organizers, or policy analysts and devote their time and energy to making change. Yet just when they begin to excel in their chosen field, they are rewarded ironically with the very thing they had never aspired to - responsibility for managing others. 

Recognizing this persistent challenge for leaders, MAG has developed customized highly interactive management workshops for social justice organizations.  This workshop frames effective management as essential to advancing social causes.  It facilitates participants connecting their passion and commitment to their management responsibilities by understanding how helping others succeed has a multiplier effect on social impact.  It also provides participants the tools to learn the skills, knowledge, and self-awareness necessary to be effective managers.   

This management workshop will help the participants advance their organization's mission by:

• Recognizing the greater social impact they can have by managing effectively
• Learning and avoiding the most common pitfalls of management
• Assessing where they are as managers
• Identifying and addressing the root causes of staff under-performance
• Providing constructive feedback and professional responses to problematic reactions
• Overcoming challenges to delegating appropriately
  

All workshops are customized to meet the specific needs of each audience.  These sessions can range in length from a three-day intensive to a 90-minute primer.   Longer engagements often include a preliminary survey of participants and individual coaching sessions following the workshop.  All sessions include access to the Advancing Your Cause Through the People You Manage Guidebook.
