The purpose of the Management Assistance Group (MAG) is to strengthen visionary organizations that work to create a just world so they can persevere as powerful agents of social change.  MAG, a 501(c)(3) Washington, DC-based nonprofit, provides organizational development assistance to social justice groups working at the local, state, national, and international level.

MAG is seeking a Consulting Associate.  The Consulting Associate will report to the Deputy Director for Products and Services.  Approximately 50% of the Consulting Associate’s time will be spent working closely with Senior Consultants and the Executive Director to provide organizational development services to clients and support MAG’s consulting work.  The remaining time will be spent marketing MAG and its publications and services.



Assist Senior and Staff Consultants' work with clients.
  • Read background materials from clients and summarize key information
  • Conduct confidential interviews with client stakeholders.
  • Create and manage surveys in SurveyMonkey.
  • Assist with drafting, editing, and proofreading documents for clients including proposal letters, agendas, meeting notes, training materials, and discussion papers.
  • In partnership with Senior Consultants facilitate meetings and deliver training.

 

Lead MAG’s Information Management Efforts

  • Maintain and expand MAG’s library and resource files on key topics in nonprofit management, organizational development, and social justice.
  • Conduct literature reviews on key organizational development subject areas.
  • Review and summarize important nonprofit sector publications.
  • Organize and maintain information on competitors and potential partners.
  • Ensure the functionality and integrity of MAG’s client tracking system.
  • Track trends and print reports in MAG’s client tracking system.

Market MAG’s ideas, products and services to key audiences

  • Partner with the Deputy Director of Products and Services to develop and execute an annual marketing and outreach strategy that establishes MAG’s leadership position in the social justice consulting sector.
  • Assist with the marketing and production of MAG publications, services, and events including presentations, workshops, trainings, webinars, and convenings.
  • Track and develop relationships with media.
  • Draft new content that keeps MAG’s website accurate and fresh, identify new opportunities to enhance and diversify MAG’s web presence and drive more traffic to the website.
  • Provide periodic updates to staff and board on web traffic and the performance of web products.
  • Oversee the development and distribution of the enewsletter, draft content, and create substantive articles with Senior Consulting Staff.
  • Manage enewsletter recipient list and collect new contact information from staff and board.

 

Support MAG’s fundraising efforts.

  • Draft foundation and individual donor proposals, reports, and letters.
  • Coordinate delivery of grant proposals, reports, and supplemental materials.
  • Coordinate mail-merging, printing, and assembly of donor appeals.
  • Maintain fundraising files.

 

Support the development of MAG’s board of directors

  • Draft and edit documents for the executive director.
  • Prepare board meeting minutes and notes.
  • Provide support to board committees.
  • Draft board updates and other materials.
  • Write summary of decisions and next steps agreed to at staff meetings.


Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate multiple activities.
  • Experience working in social justice nonprofit organizations and interest in addressing organizational development issues.
  • A deep commitment to social justice and strengthening nonprofit organizations
  • Interest in the organizational aspects of nonprofits: structure, staffing, leadership style, management, culture, strategic planning, internal relationships and communication, fundraising, finances, and board development.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with surveymonkey, a plus.
